Run Up to a Presidential Running-Mate …

15 Feb

The hottest topic of discussion in town now in cafes and tea boutiques is, who the would be the running mate of DRP Zaeem Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and who Anni will be Running-Mate to. A few days ago I was told that Anni will be Running-Mate to Hon. Mujuthaba. I did not believe that he would run for President, and someone who wouldn’t lie to me said, “I know for a fact that he has been approached, he has not yet confirmed.”

I was in a tea boutique after a focus group discussion yesterday, when someone told me that Anni will be Running-Mate to Maumoon. My initial reaction (like my friends who I later told about it) was, “No! That cannot be!”

[Yet, when you deeply think about it, there is no reason why it cannot be. This country now belongs to DRP and MDP. They are currently holding “closed-door” discussions on the fate of the nation after the “Constitution” is adopted. These two parties hijacked the nation for their party interests, unlawfully. Yet no one can challenge it, because they are the “Mafia”.]

The “good” in a possible partnership between Anni and Maumoon is that, we will have peace and stability; on the political and economic front.

Maumoon’s spokersperson did indicate that he would retire in 2010 anyway. Anni can be President for the next three years. Both want to champion reform and democracy and they will be able to do it.

So Anni and Maumoon running as a team would be a winning formula for the ailing Maldives!

no reason why it cannot be. Someone has to play the mid-wife to deliver us into the 21st century. It won’t happen on its own. And since for the last 30 years, Anni is a solitary figure in that he has challenged whatever there was to challenge, this sounds a very plausible scenario to me. M
