The gang rape of a 17-year-old girl on Gaaf Alif Gemanafushi has led to the arrest of four men.
Police received reports of the girl’s disappearance on Wednesday night and conducted joint search activities with islanders. She was found coming out of the woods near her house at 9.45pm the following night.
Police questioned the girl after she was found and made the arrests based on information she provided. One of the four men taken into custody was the girl’s stepfather, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim. The other three, all from Gemanafushi, were Ahmed Ibrahim, 21, of Vaadheege; Mohamed Shinaz, 21, of Mirusmaage; and Niyam Mohamed, 21, of Edhuruge.
