Minivan News has reported that an 18 year old boy (Abdulla Farhad, 18) has died “after being assaulted by a group of young men on the south side of Majeedhee Magu”. It also reported that “Farhad’s murder (on the night of 8th March) is the sixth gang-related death since December 2007 when 19-year-old Ali Ishar was beaten to death.”
This means there is a gang related murder every three months for a population of just over 300,000 people. In addition, several more cases of suicide and near death incidents involving street violence have been reported in this 100% Moslem nation. Yet, there is no sign of a clear government strategy to combat this epidemic. The religous ministry perhaps would say that street killings and gang related murders are not in their purview. The last government blamed it on the people. We are yet to wait and see who the present government will blame; or take responsibility to bring civility to this country.
The point I wish to make is that we have a nation that is deteriorating into decadence. And where the dawn of democracy has resulted in a seemingly acceptable anarchy.

My comment is not really about the article itself, but about how you’ve spelt the word Muslim as Moslem. This form of spelling as we all know was from people who are ignorant of Islam or pretending to be ignorant of Islam. You can find it mostly but not exclusively in the Southern states of the USA.Furthermore, if you did type Moslem on any competent web browser (i.e. any browser other than IE), you will informed that the spelling is incorrect. So my question to the author is, why did you chose this particular form of spelling? Presumably, you are Maldivian (from your profile you live in the Maldives), hence you should be more than familiar with the pronunciation of the word Muslim. Just because of that one word, I completely disregard what you’ve written, no matter how useful or informative it might be.

i think the islamic scholars should spend more time with young people in mosques to impart true islamic values to them. and the murders should be addressed in the Friday sermons. we need to educate the people. the majority of maldivians are believers of islam and they can be made to follow the teaching of islam if properly educated.

you need to have skilful professionals to get maxium benefits out of the sophisticated tools of medern age. take for an example a modern car of prestigious brand like BMW or mercedes fixed with all the latest gimmicks created by modern technology, people will, no doubt, keep praising the falshy expensive car, but if these very people do not know how to use it and drive it safely or even if they drive it chances of getting into serious accidents are far more greater, would there be anything other than misery. Democracy in our parts of the world is just like a modern tool with full of gimmicks attracted by many of us without knowing that it also requires to be handle with care by professionals who have know-how to drive it.otherwise the result will be what you see in and around you daily. you are talking about pple in the ministry of Islamic Affairs, oh! dear wht a ppl? to them the only mistake done by maumoon is that they were not given the current high profile posts during his tenure otherwise they would not have cried at top of their voice in the name of Islam.as they have achieved their goal and ANNI knows very well how to keep their mouth shut they will dare to open it again as long as ANNI scratches their back.
