It is very interesting that we think that atoll chiefs are responsible for the development of their respective atolls and the well being of their people. This is what we are made to believe. But on closer and deeper analysis, it can be concluded that it is the exact opposite that is true.
In the last couple of years, atoll chiefs have made the development of their respective atolls to be a function of their personal convenience and happiness. The putting up of a residence worth millions of Rufiyaa is seen as development of the atoll. And much of the atoll budget’s millions of Rufiyaa is spent for buying things like furniture and new flat screen televisions for the atoll chief’s residence. The development of the atoll revolves around a Mecca of the atoll chief. A former atoll chief that I mentioned this to, claimed that all of it was in order to bring high officials to the atoll, whose visits were important to get development projects to the atoll. He said that if the atoll chief’s official residence was not posh enough for people to visit, then these important people will neglect the atoll.
After the official residence, comes a yatch dhoni and a speed launch for the atoll chief, then a posh car for his personal use. I would presume that the next in line would be a personal and private airfield for the atoll chief.
Atoll development has to be seen from the perspective of the people whose well being is preffered over the convenience and comfort of the atoll chief.

As long as the attol chifs are hapy, there is les trouble to the ministry. So i guess, its a government policy to provide all means of facilities to the people who deals with the government. nice one. :Dbut i think that is their job.they have been appointed to make sure all those ‘dhathurufulhuthah’ with or without family is good enough.and we all know about atoll minister ilyas (when he was) had harem islands in many atolls.and some atolls offer virgin girls to him….for ‘falhufunkurun’ to go on….more like rannamaariz.anotherthing is people’s mentality.u know it is a personal duty of every katheeb to make his family cook for the atoll chief and his companions on their visits. :Sand what the f**k is atoll ministry for..that is yest another unanswered question.i dont think DO sappe is going to extreme when he says this certain person is a pharaoh.

I personally met (working on my thesis) Mr.Hussein Saeed, while he was the atoll chief of Addu atoll in arround June. I think he is crazy. Most of the questions i asked him in regard to economic development in the island, he went complete blur… He was more eager to express himself than the situation. I bet he didn’t have a clue what he was or what he was doing…. He said, he has worked on so many y proporsals, but the government thinks his work is waste of time and resources… he also told me he has a masters degree from Australia or so (when i told this to the public, everybody kept laughing… i myself don’t believe he is an educate) … He told me his background is on education…. then, i wanted to tell him wt* are you doing here! People also said keep good relation with the youg gangs accross the atoll, hoping for their backup.
