Today is the 43rd anniversary of Independence of the Maldives, since 26th July 1965. This independence day is special because a cabinet decision to scrap the Indepdence Day Grand Ceremony on the 26th was overturned by the Home Minister on the wise counsel of school children. The children echoed their grievences on national tv.
The cabinet decision that was overturned less than 24 hours after its announcement showed that we do not have a THINKing cabinet, despite the recent THINKnation initiative by the Information and Legal Reform Minister. When this fantastic idea [to cancel the 26th night celebrations] was suggested to them by the President or whoever did it, they could not disagree with anything in front of the President. So, they did not take a minute to hesitate, but praised the wise counsel.
We thought we had a capable cabinet. I am sure now we all know the caliber and the capacity fo the cabinet we have now. Shame!

True, its the 44th independence day. But that’s not significant if one is counting anniversaries, this being the 43rd.

Its 43 years since 1965. But it is the 44th independence day because the first independence day was celebrated in 1965.

you know even this time dictator Dhebo geri dhuvi. after forcing all parents to spend loads of money on costumes and everything, MG anounces that it was canceled becasue of financial problems the country is facing. if this is the case and gb is genuine he would have it canceled even before parents spend so mouch money in these difficult times. later home affairs still goahead with it on the instructions of MG. so on the face of it MG wants to cancel and its the parents who want the function to be held. its acutally the opposite. MG would not miss any opportunity for hime to act and feel like a king.as a parent we know MGs tactics. MG thinks he is very smart. we arnt screaming for the sake of ur children. but we will deal with you through the ballot for cheating us like this in the past 30 years.
