Sexual violence against children is a crisis tearing at our communities. One in three secondary school girls faces abuse, and many teens: especially girls, are victims, with rates far higher than reported due to stigma silencing survivors.

The Ministry of Family and Social Development notes sexual abuse as a top concern in child violence cases, yet fear of shame keeps most cases hidden. Our scattered islands, poverty, and emerging risks like child sex tourism make kids easy targets. Weak justice systems let perpetrators slip through. But by 2030, we can rewrite this story for every child, aligning with global goals to end violence (SDG 16.2).

First, fight for justice. Courts rarely convict abusers, leaving survivors without closure. We must push for laws that clearly criminalize all forms of child sexual violence, ensuring no loophole protects perpetrators. Demand trained judges who understand kids’ trauma and a public offender registry that’s always up to date. Support one-stop centers where survivors get help fast—legal, emotional, and practical. Youth, use your platforms to call out impunity and demand accountability!

Second, shatter the silence. Stigma buries abuse in our tight-knit islands. Launch bold, youth-led campaigns to teach communities and schools about consent and safe reporting. Make tools like the “Ahan” app and “1412” hotline household names, even in remote atolls. Defenders, train local leaders to challenge norms that hide abuse, empowering kids to speak up without fear.

Third, shield the vulnerable. Kids moving to Malé for school and those near resorts face huge risks. Advocate for safe housing for student migrants and strict rules in the tourism industry to stop exploitation. Create youth councils to spot dangers and amplify young voices.

Our Move: Rally for funding to fuel justice, awareness, and protection. By 2035, let’s make the Maldives a place where every child is safe. Your passion, your voice – let’s do this!
