Teams listen the way leaders listen.

If leaders interrupt, teams rush. If leaders defend, teams withhold. If leaders stay curious, teams open up.

Listening is contagious. So is impatience.

The tone of listening at the top quietly shapes the honesty below. Not through instruction – but through example. I saw this shape our culture at Damas over two decades.

When leaders model patience, others feel permitted to slow down. When leaders model curiosity, others feel safe to explore ideas aloud.

That was how we stayed at the top of the wave in what we did, when I worked at the Ministry of Education. Those were the golden years of my leadership journey.

Listening is not a soft skill. It is a culture-setting act.
