On August 26, I had the privilege of joining #Live2Lead, a leadership event hosted by Maxwell Leadership. It was a day of learning following the International Maxwell Conference held on the previous two day. I joined from the virtual platform.

Though I wasn’t physically in the room, the energy, passion, and authenticity of the speakers were palpable across the screen. By the time the final session ended, I felt deeply motivated, inspired, and determined to “live to lead” — not just as a motto, but as a way of life.

A Surge of Energy and Belonging

From the very beginning, there was a sense that Live2Lead is more than just another leadership conference. It is a family. John C. Maxwell reminded us that we are people of value who add value to people. That simple yet profound truth is the heart of leadership. It is not about position, titles, or recognition; it is about investing in others.

As I listened, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of belonging. John spoke of family: not necessarily the one we are born into, but the one we choose and build by showing up for each other, encouraging each other, and believing in each other. Leadership, at its best, creates family.

The Power of Belief

Another thread running throughout the event was the importance of faith and belief — in ourselves, in the people around us, and in the possibilities ahead. Craig Groeschel spoke powerfully about breaking leadership barriers, reminding us that growth is possible when we step out of our comfort zones. Valorie Burton, introducing her new book Rules of Resilience, reminded us that challenges don’t define us, but our responses to them do. Her words were a timely reminder that investing in personal growth is not selfish: it’s essential.

Investing in Yourself

One of the strongest calls to action came from Tiffani Bova, who spoke about building confidence like a muscle: something that only grows stronger with use. Her perspective reinforced the importance of choices: every decision either builds us up or holds us back.

Anthony Trucks expanded on this with his concept of “dark work” — the unseen, often unglamorous effort that lays the foundation for visible success. His message was both practical and empowering: true transformation happens in the shadows, long before the spotlight finds us.

Jesse Cole, known for his infectious energy and bold vision with the Savannah Bananas baseball team, reminded us of the power of creativity, fun, and passion. His story was a living example that leadership doesn’t have to look conventional to make an extraordinary impact.

And Mark Cole, CEO of Maxwell Leadership, brought it full circle by sharing his personal journey of growth, showing that leadership is not a one-time decision but a lifelong commitment.

Key Takeaways

As I reflect on the event, several key takeaways stand out that I want to carry forward — and share with you:

  1. Leadership starts with valuing people. Every interaction is an opportunity to add value.
  2. Family is forged in belief. Whether at work, in community, or at home, believing in others builds belonging.
  3. Investing in yourself is not optional. Growth requires discipline, resilience, and the courage to step into hard places.
  4. Energy is contagious. When leaders like Jesse Cole bring passion and creativity, they multiply hope and joy.
  5. Faith fuels leadership. Without belief — in our purpose, in our team, and in the possibilities — leadership loses its direction.

Living to Lead

Live2Lead reminded me that leadership is not just about the future we want to create, but also about the daily choices we make. It is about choosing to lead with love, to listen deeply, to encourage generously, and to serve selflessly.

Most of all, I walked away reminded that we are not alone. The Live2Lead community, from the 3,500 people who gathered in person to the thousands who joined virtually around the world, is proof that leadership is a shared journey. We are a family of leaders committed to growing together, encouraging one another, and making a difference.

As John Maxwell said in his closing words, the dream is coming true when we take what we’ve learned and live it out.

That is my commitment: to live to lead – better and brighter each day.
