Ibthihaal, beaten to death by his mother. Shaihaa, stabbed to dearh by her mother who she went to for a hug. Amaanullah, crushed by a vehicle, the driver shielded by a powerful company’s ties. These are not just tragedies: they are our failures. We’ve turned away, blind to the cries of the forgotten, lost in our heartless chase for fleeting grandeur.
Hussain Solah vanished in police custody, found dead. A detainee in Atholhuvehi, branded a criminal for addiction, lay lifeless. Another hanged himself with a string from his shorts. These deaths scream of neglect, of systems that crush the vulnerable. We hide behind false facades, deaf to their pain, numb to the violence that festers unchecked.
A girl, raped at knifepoint, was sentenced for her silence: punished for fear. Her story indicts us all. We blame victims, excuse perpetrators, and call it justice.
We are not lost, but we are drifting. Tear down the apathy. Demand justice. Act with fierce compassion.
We need institutions of care that provide mental health, and psychosocial support, and a justice system that can feel the pain of the suffering. NOW
Their blood stains us: until we change. #EndTheSilence #JusticeForTheForgotten
