Discipline

Yesterday, I had a conversation with Afiya on our YouTube channel Magey Mujuthamau, where we explored the theme of Responsibility, reflecting on societal behaviors that challenge communal harmony and collective well-being.

During our discussion, we highlighted several examples of irresponsible conduct, such as parking motorcycles in the middle of the road, improper parking of cars that inconvenience others, smoking in public spaces or while in uniform, littering, and a general neglect of public cleanliness. We also noted instances of loitering and behavior lacking moral integrity.

These actions, though often overlooked, can have significantly negative impacts on society. In our response, we emphasized the critical role of personal responsibility in fostering meaningful change.

We spoke about the importance of maintaining health through daily practices like morning walks, regular exercise, and spending time in the sun. We encouraged avoiding smoking and tobacco products, especially to reduce the risk of cancer, and paying attention to healthy eating habits.

Mental and emotional well-being were also central to our conversation. Controlling anger, practicing patience, and approaching others with kindness and compassion were highlighted as essential. We reflected on the need to use polite and respectful language, particularly within families and in interactions with domestic helpers.

Afiya and I also underscored the value of setting a positive example for society. This includes using social media to share uplifting messages and modeling behavior that inspires children, who learn primarily through the actions of the adults around them.

Although no one is perfect, we each carry the responsibility to embody integrity, empathy, and mindfulness: whether at home, in public, or in the workplace. Upholding these values and striving to be role models in our character and conduct is a vital contribution to a thriving society.

In sha Allah, we hope to revisit this theme again and continue expanding the dialogue.
