In a coaching session for coaches by The Coaching Co.mv, we were asked a powerful question – to describe a moment in the day when we felt happy.

When the question was posed, I couldn’t think of anything during the day that sparked happiness in me. Then I remembered. A video call with my nephews and niece miles away. It was a moment so loud and overwhelming with happiness the whole neighborhood could hear it – according to those around me. So, I shared it.

Later on, after the session – the question kept nudging me. That was when I remembered bumping into my close friend on the ferry, and telling him that my battery had gone flat and I cannot start the motorbike. He immediately called a few people. They came by the time the ferry arrived in Male, with equipment to jump start the engine.

The battery had completely drained and it didn’t start after being switched off. The mechanisms went back to their garage, came back with a maintenance free battery, installed it, and I was ready to go on my bike. And all that on a public holiday when most garages were closed. Imagine!

I also had a call from a close relative. Who wanted to wish me Eid Mubarak in person. He said he couldn’t call on Eid, so wanted to wish me and find out how I was doing. It was such a touching moment.

Another relative came all the way from Male to fix a lock on our bedroom. The lock had problem.and we brought a new lock to replace the old one. It was a little bit complicated, and he made time from a tight schedule for the day, to come and do it for us. He is the kind of person who would go all the way to get anything for us.

We received photos of our granddaughters who were on an Eid getaway in an island with cute poses. They were sharing their moments of joy from far away, and we joined in the delightful experiences with calls to comolement. They were beautiful moments.

Then, I had a call from a referral made by a friend, for a training engagement. That was something that really made my day. I took notes and immediately put myself to compiling a program. It was an uplifting moment.

It reminded me: first, of the power of a simple question; second, of the importance of taking a minute every day to take stock of what brings us joy, and who made those moments possible. And to embrace a moment of gratitude.
